The Genius of using colours to signal your brand
A tactic used by Artists such as A2 & Little Simz, but why?
With a simple tweet on April 20th; Little Simz let the world know that she had an EP about to drop 🚀. She had recorded a 5-song EP at home during the pandemic and had the genius of using a captivating blue 🔵for her EP which was brilliant for attention-grabbing.
Colour signalling is something that worked well for Artists such as A2 and Nipsey Hussle. Colours are proven to reinforce consistency and work well in driving awareness & discovery of your project - especially when marketers are competing for attention online.
Execution by the team was impressive. It drove changes in :
Emojis
Social Media display pictures
Colour schemes
Backdrops
Website rebranding
Digital Posters
Either subtle or full-screen, you’re not missing that blue 🔵
Little Simz also did a live performance of the EP followed by a QnA across multiple platforms (YouTube, Facebook and Twitter). These things massively boost posts and directly increase reach based on how the social platforms work.
Remember, The Marketing Rule of 7 states that someone needs to “hear” the advertiser’s message at least 7 times before they’ll take action to buy that product or service. Imagine seeing your blue all over your timeline. That's another opportunity to reinforce that visually.
And the fans loved it too 😂
In Case You Missed It
🤝As you already know, 3 years ago Spotify launched Spotify for Artists which gives artists more creative control over their profile, a direct channel to pitch to playlists and the stats you care about. The new Head of Product @ Twitch who is ex-Spotify is connecting the dots with updates to Spotify for Artists making collaboration between Artists, Labels and Teams easier.
📻Another great breakdown on No Signal by GUAP, the team behind the popular #NS10v10 hashtag that. Interesting discussion on whether it will bring the reemergence of black radio

It's very interesting to see how something as often neglected as colours make such an impact on the brand statement. Thanks for this fantastic article.
Well put together. Something artists and their team should think about.
